EDUCATION

"As an empowerment right education is the primary vehicle by which economically and socially marginalized adults and children can lift themselves out of poverty, and obtain the means to participate fully in their communities.” UNESCO

UNESCO deems education as a fundamental human right and leads the global Education for All movement, aiming to meet the learning needs of all children, youth and adults in the next decade. Support for education is clear among economists and policymakers as seen in the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals focusing on education for all children to complete primary school by 2015.

Millions of children in the developing world do not have access to basic education, in addition, access to computers and the Internet is still very much a luxury. Despite inadequate and limited resources, communities are partnering with non governmental and not-for-profit organizations to use the information technology to improve education, curriculum and programs.

Computers allow for the development of a more interactive learning experience and give children the opportunity to explore, be creative and learn problem solving skills to reach their full potential. Isa Mundo's Education Projects are dedicated to creating small computer learning centres in local schools along with providing basic educational materials and teaching software.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

Our entire planet is one delicate and complex set of relationships between species, people, habitats, governments and global market forces. We also know that meaningful conservation cannot take place without focusing on all of them.” World Wildlife Fund

The world now occupies more than 6.6 billion people. According to the Sierra Club, the rate at which we consume and destroy our natural resources threatens the availability of clean water and air for generations to come. Only one fifth of our planet’s population live in industrialized countries but somehow they consume more than two thirds of the planet’s resources.

Isa Mundo is dedicated to supporting initiatives that provide the design, installation, training and future support for sustainable projects that can be operated and repaired by community members. To carry out these initiatives, the Isa Mundo Foundation aims to help communities discover healthy and environmentally sustainable living and, therefore, minimize our ecological footprint on this planet.

Isa Mundo's Environmental Health Projects will promote:

Alternative energy use e.g. solar power and pumping systems, geothermal, wind, biomass, etc.

Quality water and sustainable water use e.g. solar powered water systems, rainwater collection, water purification, and waste water treatment systems, etc.

Environmental protection e.g. organic farming, coral reef rehabilitation, and initiatives that protect, conserve and/or restore components of ecosystems, including plants, wildlife and the natural resources vital to sustain all life.

The strategies and tools for sustainable living are growing and being implemented across the globe by all walks of life. The role of Isa Mundo will be to deliver these strategies and tools to each community, one project at a time. This will be accomplished by recruiting volunteers and partnering with other organizations to coordinate the dissemination of knowledge and resources. Isa Mundo will strive to enable communities the world over to have the choice and the means to live a healthy and environmentally sustainable life.

CHILDREN & YOUTH

Children are our future and carry our hopes and dreams for the world. To realize their dreams and to truly fulfill their potential, children must live in a world that protects them, listens to their needs and respects their dignity.” Plan Canada (www.plancanada.ca)

UNICEF estimates that there are over100 million street children in the world with 40 million residing in Latin America alone. Children and youth living on the street may have separated themselves from family due to various circumstances beyond their control such as poverty, abuse or dysfunctional homes and institutions. Living on the street deprives children of protection from such abuse and exploitation, and excludes them from school, healthcare and other basic needs that impact their development and their future. Some of these children may live their entire lives on the street while others become orphans

Orphanages and shelters can provide a safe haven for children and youth and can become their only line of defense against poverty. They can provide basic assistance and much needed individual attention while others have programs designed to provide counseling, education, and other social services. Orphanages and shelters act as temporary or permanent residence until the children are adopted or until they mature and are able to live a prosperous life on their own.

Isa Mundo is committed to supporting and forming a partnership with orphanages, shelters and other child-centered organizations by providing funding for annual activities, events and other much needed supplies. It is with hope that children and youth will have the opportunity to play, learn and be active in a safe and nurturing environment where they can grow and thrive.
